Vancouver Shame Fest 2024: Pushing Boundaries, Embracing Resilience

Get ready to challenge societal norms and embrace the shame at the Vancouver Shame Fest 2024, a groundbreaking gathering curated by marginalized queer artists from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

From August 1st to August 5th, 2024, Vancouver will become the epicenter of a revolutionary event aimed at reclaiming Pride as a space for activism, expression, and authentic representation. Vancouver Shame Fest 2024 stands as a testament to the resilience of the queer and outsider artistic community. Pushing back against commercialization, this festival reclaims the essence of Pride as a space for activism, expression, and authentic representation. Vancouver Shame Fest 2024 arises as a response to the escalating detachment and commercialization observed in Pride Festivals. Our purpose is to illuminate underrepresented talents and cultivate a community for those disenfranchised by corporate influences on the queer and outsider art scenes. To this end, we aspire to dismantle token representation of queer experiences and recognize the intersectionality of identities within the LGBTQ+ community. Through community connections, this years lineup showcases local and international artists, many who have been overlooked due to their vulnerable or marginalized positions. Our objectives include providing a space for queer outsider artists to express themselves authentically while expanding British Columbia's music ecology. By fostering collaboration, we also aim to inspire people struggling to find their place and authenticity in the world.
