Join us for an encore screening of our 2021 Vancouver Queer Film Festival award winners!
We’ll be screening three award-winning films from this year’s Festival on Tuesday, December 7 at The Cinematheque and we want you to join us!
Step 1: Make sure you have an Adult Out On Screen Society Membership from this year’s Festival. Didn’t get one? No worries! You can add one to your Elevent account for $5. Remember, all Reel Patron donors who receive Festival Benefits have an Adult Membership already.
Step 2: Choose the ticket price that’s right for you. Tickets start at just $5 and all tickets provide you with the same level of access to the film screening.
Step 3: Make sure you’ve got your BC Vaccine Passport and mask - then join us on Dec 7!
This year’s winning films beautifully explored the diversity of trans and gender non-conforming lives. Adam, winner of the People’s Choice Award for Best Feature, moved us with the story of a young trans man’s journey across geopolitical and gender boundaries to find his home. Our People’s Choice Award for Best Short went to Golden Frames in The Closet, a short film by Putri Sarah Amelia which sensitively portrays the importance of bodily autonomy within the context of gender, family, religion, and death.
We’ll also be screening the winner of our annual Gerry Brunet Memorial Award. This annual juried prize for the Festival’s best BC short film was established in 1997 in recognition of Gerry Brunet, a lifelong contributor to local queer communities and an early board member of Out On Screen. This year, the award is generously supported by the Directors Guild of Canada – BC and recognizes a local short filmmaker from this year’s VQFF.
Local standout The Tailor impressed the Gerry jury with a journey of self-acceptance by way of human connection, revelation, and the fateful exchange of two strangers who share their vulnerability and their hearts with each other.
Join us on December 7 to enjoy these films the way they were meant to be seen - on the big screen! We’ll also be bestowing the Gerry Brunet Memorial Award and celebrating the winning director: Nathalie Therriault!
