Vancouver's Blind Tiger offers free comedy classes

Vancouver’s Blind Tiger Comedy offers free improv classes to underrepresented communities in comedy.

2021 is the third year of Blind Tiger Comedy’s Welcome inclusion initiative. 2019’s edition welcomed people who identify as women, trans and/or femme to try their first comedy class, 2020’s online edition invited Black, Indigenous and/or People of Colour to try comedy. Visit their Welcome page here for more info →

WHY YOU SHOULD TRY IMPROV

Improv is a fountain of joy. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll have you expressing yourself in all sorts of new ways, it’ll expand your social skills and introduce you to other cool people like you. All of the BTC faculty are professional comedians who have been honing their skills as teachers for years, so you can trust that you’re learning from the best from day one.

People who are interested in trying improv or sketch comedy classes may register for free if they are any of:

• Self-identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Colour;
• Are trans, gender fluid, or gender non-binary;
• Are over the age of 50;
• and/orLive outside of British Columbia's largest urban centres (specifically, live outside of Greater Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Kamloops).

HOW TO JOIN

All spots are first come, first serve based on when we receive your form.

1. Check out which class you are interested on our classes page.

  • If you’re new to improv, we recommend Intro 1.

  • If you’re interested in comedy writing, we recommend Sketch 1!

2. Fill out the simple Welcome 2021 form (no long answer questions).

3. Our amazing General Manager Sasha Mark (sasha@blindtigercomedy.ca) will be in touch within two business days to confirm your spot and answer any questions you may have.

That’s it! If this program interests you, and you know someone who might enjoy improv (note: most people truly love it), why not help us welcome them? Share the post, introduce them to us via email or by tagging us on social media…whatever is best for you.

Taking comedy classes can help people with public speaking, help find ways to express yourself in new and creative ways, and offers the opportunity to meet a ton of awesome and hilarious people in the process. I will include some of the specifics and enrollment information below as well as the links to our social media posts.
