Broken Laws - Queer History at the Vancouver Police Museum

Hey friends! I'm excited to share a new presentation this Thursday at the Vancouver Police Museum: Broken Laws. This is a deep dive into the history of Canadian Law and its intersection with the queer community. Discover how exactly queer lives were criminalized by law enforcement (it may surprise you!) and if they were ever actually decriminalized. I'd love to see you there.

I grew up in a small town on the Prairies, at a time when being gay was not okay. I was in a closet, but found a powerful outlet for my feelings when I discovered the theatre. It was a safe space to express my desperation, rage and confusion.

When I was acting, it felt like the one time I wasn't pretending. I could truly be myself. My favourite role was always the narrator. Just being myself, in front of others, felt so liberating! So I put acting to one side, and became a storyteller.

Years later, when I created The Really Gay History Tour, I discovered something I didn't know I was missing. The powerful sense of belonging that comes from knowing your heritage. The sense of completion that comes from knowing that you have a place in the story.

Since then, I have led hundreds of tours for thousands of guests, sharing this empowering history with them.

The impact of my walking tour has inspired me to share these powerful stories with larger audiences - at conferences, organizations, corporations, and community events.

I am passionate about sharing 2SLGBTQ+ history. These are powerful, meaningful stories. We have been robbed of our heritage - our sense of belonging in history. I am here to help us reclaim it.
