Cannery Speaker Session - Ivan Coyote on Queerness in Skilled Labour

Celebrated Canadian writer Ivan Coyote (Care Of, Gender Failure) joins the Cannery to share their experiences working in skilled trades throughout their life. Ivan’s experiences demonstrate that there are people of all gender and sexual identities in industrial and trade work, and showcase the real, lived experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members in these fields.

Ivan Coyote is a writer, storyteller and performer. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, they are the author of thirteen books, the creator of four films, seven stage shows, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s books have won the ReLit Award, the B.C. Book Prize for Writing That Provokes, been named a Stonewall Honour Book, been longlisted for Canada Reads, been shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize for non-fiction, and the Governor General’s Award for non-fiction twice.

We are so excited to have Ivan joining us to celebrate the links between 2SLGBTQI+ experiences and industrial, skilled labour work like the work that was done at the Cannery. We hope you will join us! We will also be joined by UBC's X̱wi7x̱wa to share resources and reading materials related to the 2SLGBTQI+ experience.
