Old Town New Queens
Britannia Beach, BC (June 17, 2024) – The boys are back in town for the ever popular “Old Town, New Queens” pride night drag show event at the Britannia Mine Museum on Saturday, June 22nd from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Hosted at the Museum’s 20-storey Mill No. 3 building, a National Historic Site, the stage is set and will be transformed for two incredible shows featuring an expanded performer lineup of some of the most amazing 2SLGBTQIA+ drag artists from the Lower Mainland.
To tie into this year’s summer exhibit “Rock Solid: Safety in Mines” theme, local
Squamish drag superstars Dust Cwaine, Homo Hardware and Sativa the Diva will lead an all-star cast of drag queens, drag kings and drag things through fierce lip sync numbers inspired by all things 'mine safety'.
“We love collaborating with drag artists to bring this event to life,” says Derek Jang, the Museum’s Manager of Interpretive Delivery. “Every performance number has been chosen to reflect the themes of our summer exhibit, from safety equipment to rescue competitions. The drag performers and the crowds created such amazing energy in our previous events, and we’re working hard behind-the-scenes to make sure this year’s show is the biggest and best one yet.”
In addition to returning superstars Dolly Hardon, Dust Cwaine, Flemme Fatale, Homo Hardware, and Sativa the Diva, the 2024 cast will include Acacia Gray, AndrogynAss, Justin Abit, and Theo Rhetical for their “Old Town, New Queens” debuts. This year’s cast has focused on bringing more drag kings and non-binary performers to the spotlight.
Tickets to the “Old Town, New Queens” event include two 45-minute drag performances in the Mill as well as access to the Museum’s summer exhibit “Rock Solid: Safety in Mines” and the Museum’s lower site permanent exhibits, including the gold panning station. The Baba’s House Kitchen food truck will have food and non-alcoholic beverages available on site. Local community organizations Pride Squamish and Sea to Sky Allies will also be present at the event.
As with previous years, some performances may include 'grown up humour' including stronger language and edgier content; however, audiences of all ages who are looking to celebrate Pride are welcome.
Located 45 minutes north of Vancouver on the picturesque Sea-to-Sky highway, the Britannia Mine Museum provides unique and memorable experiences that engage visitors of all ages.
