Duck Duck Moose at the Vancouver Fringe

Desperate contestants. Twisted children’s games. And a single audience member thrust into the centre of it all.

This is Duck Duck Moose: a Canadian satire inspired by Squid Game, starring a powerhouse cast you might recognize from stage, screen, and everything in between — improvised live at the Granville Island Improv Centre, where laughter meets dread and no one is safe.

From the moment the games begin, the stakes are clear: play, or be eliminated. Driven by dire circumstances and an ominous hockey referee wearing moose antlers, archetypal characters claw for survival. And rising from it all is The Hero: an unsuspecting audience member, plucked from their seat to enter the games and fight for the common folk.

But will the Hero survive? Will they truly be able to act upon their own free will? Or will they, too, be manipulated — just like all the rest — by the rich, who dangle the promise of wealth over the players and dance with repugnant glee, like masked jesters from a Commedia dell’Arte nightmare?

Fast, funny, and ferociously bleak, this raucous, spontaneous morality play hearkens back to medieval traditions — inviting you to thumb your nose at power and money... or throw your arms open and embrace the greed. All of it unfolds in 60 minutes of sharp satire, high-stakes absurdity, and relentless audience interaction.

Duck Duck Moose is a twisted, hilarious descent into the illusion of choice and the search for a modern-day hero. Every Hero — and every show — is different.
