Tangerine

“Merry Christmas Eve, Bitch.”

A contemporary Christmas classic from director Sean Baker (ANORA, THE FLORIDA PROJECT), TANGERINE was a breakout hit and indie darling in 2015, wowing the crowds at festivals and movie-loving audiences around the world for both its thematic content and innovative technical approach; the entire film was shot using only three iPhone 5s phones. The film follows sex worker Sin-Dee (a knockout performance from newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez), who upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend was unfaithful during the days she was jailed, sets out with her best friend Alexandra to get to the bottom of things – and teach her ex and his new lover a lesson. Their odyssey leads them through a hyper-real subculture of Los Angeles.

“Gorgeous. A perfectly cast, beautifully directed movie.” (New York Times)

“A sneaky slice-of-life indie that comes on all casual and cinéma-verité in the early scenes, then slowly coalesces into a romantic comedy as intricately constructed as any door-slamming stage farce.” (Slate)

“Shot on an iPhone 5 for practically no money, Tangerine jumps off the screen and wows you like nobody’s business.” (Rolling Stone Magazine)

“Their bond is largely what transforms another depressing Christmas in LA into a riotous adventure, even as it includes brothels, infidelity, meth, and kidnapping.” (Chicago Reader)
