Vancouver International FIlm Festival 2025

The 44th Vancouver International Film Festival returns October 2–12, 2025.

This year’s expanded festival footprint will showcase more than 150 feature films and 84 shorts across 13 screens in 10 Vancouver venues, including two new locations: the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage and the Alliance Française on Cambie Street. Over 90 titles will screen at VIFF as premieres, including 15 world premieres.

The festival will open with Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, a tribute to Godard’s Breathless. Closing is Köln 75, a 2025 German music-drama film directed by Ido Fluk with a live performance by Chris Gestrin.

Beyond the films, audiences can look forward to filmmaker Q&As, VIFF Live performances, VIFF Talks, the Artist & Industry program, the Signals creative tech expo, and VIFF Amp music-in-media summit.

Here at What’s On Queer we’ll be especially watching for work that’s queer, offbeat, and sharp around the edges, alongside big titles from BC, across Canada, and around the world. Whether you’re in it for bold storytelling, candid conversations with creators, or just that unmistakable festival charge, there’s a lot coming your way.
