Red Light Labour Book Launch

Join several chapter authors from BC in celebrating the recent publication of "Red Light Labour: Sex Work, Regulation, Agency and Resistance". This new book highlights the activism, advocacy and resilience of sex workers in the face of stigma and criminalization and a few of the authors will also be reading selections from their chapters.

Fanfiction Deathmatch: Harry Potter

Ever thought you could write a better chapter about Harry Potter: like losing his cherry to Dumbledor? Now is your chance to see if any Vancouver writers have the same thoughts in the smuttiest, sexiest, most hilarious competition you'll ever see. They've challenged eight writers to come up with the most erotic fanfiction they can develop, utilizing a simple theme: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. They'll be read aloud, blind, by performers onstage as you, the audience, decides who moves on to next month's show and secures a spot in the Season Finale Deathmatch.

Big Gay Sword Day

I know what you are thinking but there are no exposed Big Gay Swords here, sorry Sydney. Join us for a showcase of four of the awesomest queer instructors in the Pacific Northwest! This one-day event features workshops from:  Vancouver Strength Collective , Lonin League and Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly . Workshops will run from 1 to 1.5 hours and will cover topics including footwork and body mechanics; breathing and perception; technical swordplay fun; partner skills and communication. Be ready to sweat a lot, think a lot, and have some big feelings.

Storytelling With Drag Queens For Kids

Another first for Port Moody as they have their very first Storytelling with Drag Queens for Kids event at the Port Moody Public Library! This is a fun glamourous daytime event as Drag Queens read from their favourite picture books to kids. Featuring the wonderful Gay Sha, Tommi Horror and Tara B reading to support gender diversity and literacy in a fun and inclusive environment. Based on NYC's Famous Drag Queen Story Hour at the Brooklyn Public Library and San Francisco libraries but with a North West Coast flavour.

Meet and Greet: Brain Storm

Come join in for the Autistiqueer Collective's highly anticipated first meet-and-greet. This event is about pulling the community together and finding out what YOU would like to see them do with this project. Join a team, share your experiences, or just come to witness the awkward social dynamic of a room full of people who don't get subtext talking about gender, sex, and politics.

16th Annual Out On-Screen Fall Gala

They're back for the year's must-attend event: the Out On Screen Fall Gala! This year's fabulous cocktail party and art auction will once again support the Out In Schools program and the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Party with the who’s who of Vancouver’s LGBT2Q+ communities, take home one of 20 stunning pieces, no not any of the who’s who, but actual pieces created by local and Canadian artists. Be a part of increasing queer, trans, and two-spirit representation in film and society.

Trivia Night Fundraiser With Peach Cobblah

Condom Packing Party

For those of you that scoop up your supply of condoms at every bar you go into, it is time for you to give back. No not the used condoms, but your expertise at stuffing things into tight spaces. Chat with other volunteers as you help cram, stuff, and pack condoms and lube into cute little packages. You even get to finish the evening off with a meal from one of the fabulous restaurants in the neighbourhood. Hosted by HIM and this week’s guests Vancouver Men In Leather.

14th Annual Gay Men’s Health Summit

Loneliness, anxiety and depression are no strangers to those who have been denied equal status in society. Growing up in a heteronormative and ciscentric world, many gay, bi, trans, Two-Spirit, queer (GBT2Q), and other men who have sex with men. From microaggressions to institutionalized discrimination, these societal norms can have lasting impact on our mental health. Combined with stigma towards, and within, our communities (including racism, HIV-stigma and transphobia). The 14th Annual Summit provides a forum for identifying and addressing issues in GBT2Q and other men who have sex with men across Canada. Summit runs until Saturday, Nov 10.
