The Sock Hop
Normally this is the term used when you are a teenage boy and your favourite sock, which is also your current love partner, is thrown after use into your hiding spot so mom doesn’t find it, right Mr Malcolm? However tonight it signifies something fun: a dance party for the lgbtq2s 55+ brought to you by Rainbow Roundtable and their guests Not So Strictly Ballroom & Timberline Dance Society. NSSB and Timberline will demonstrate / teach the Jive and a line dance and then you'll have time to hang out and chew the fat or practice what you've learned from the guests in the first half. This Friday is the final night of the Fall Season at Rainbow Roundtable.
6:30—9pm. Room C, Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews. $5 drop in. The Sock Hop

Spice World
You may hate the movie but you all sing along to the songs, I’ve heard you. Even the tough muscle jock is belting it out like Baby Spice, sorry Colin Markus Jackson. Now you can do it along to the movie and it will come alive onstage with Jane Smoker, Gia Metric, Jem, Kendall Gender and Synthia Kiss as you and get taken to a whole other level - with a live shadowcast featuring Vancouver's own amazing Spice Gurlz! They really need to do this with Gypsy as well, can’t you just see Connie Smudge as Mama Rose, and I’d die right there!
9:30—11:30pm. The Rio Theatre, 1660 East Broadway. Tickets $15 advance and more info at

Encore
Believe it or not this piano playing/musical theater sing a long has found a home at PJs. It’s even quite entertaining shooting pool with it going on in the background, and after a few winning games against my opponent I am sure it is soothing for him as well. A few cocktails, the old piano with the tip jar on top for requests I am sure, and the nimble fingers of Kerry O’Donovan and you will totally forget about the hottie that snubbed you at the urinal.
9pm—2am. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St. No cover. Encore

Giant Little Ones
Giant Little Ones is a heartfelt and intimate coming-of-age story about friendship, self-discovery, and the power of love without labels. Franky Winter and Ballas Kohl have been best friends since childhood. They are high school royalty: handsome, stars of the swim team, and popular with girls. They live a perfect teenage life - until the night of Franky's epic 17th birthday party when Franky and Ballas are involved in an unexpected incident that changes their lives forever. With its unusually smart, perceptive and warm-hearted take on coming-of-age tropes, this second feature by Saskatchewan-bred, Toronto-based writer-director Keith Berhman feels wide and wise enough to somehow contain all the complexities that modern life present to teenagers (and their bewildered parents, too).
Showtimes 1:30, 4:00, 7:00 and 9:25pm. Cineplex International Village, 88 West Pender St. Tickets released Wednesday, Mar 27 at https://www.cineplex.com/Movie/giant-little-ones

Man Up Lucky 11 Anniversary Show
Did you know? Turns out Lady Luck is non-binary! Drag in this city has pushed back against the forces that have tried to contain us, perhaps just jealous of our boogie. We are here today thanks to the long-term drag dedication from our Man Up family, the fierce loyalty and support from our community, and yes, a bunch of lucky ass breaks -- like being given our first chance at Lick in '08, to being welcomed with open arms by the Cobalt in '11, to the miraculous opportunity presented to us with the inception of Eastside Studios in '18. We have oceans of gratitude for all those who have participated in sustaining and elevating Man Up to where it is today, and to all those who will continue to hold up exuberant, safer, and accountable community spaces, as important and necessary to our queer liberation. Tonight they are celebrating with a lot of surprises in store for you. Even Symone Says will be dropping by to entertain you.
8pm—2am. Warehouse at Eastside Studios, 550 Malkin Ave. Tickets $16 and info at Man Up 11th Anniversary

But fear not, they are throwing a massive warehouse party to say goodbye to the Lab in style! Expect nonstop music, drag, performers, dancers, going late into the night. And since Matt has never been one to stay out of the picture for long we all know he will be back somewhere in town with a vengeance.

Trans Day of Visibility - Film Night “Hookers On Davie”
CATA invites community members who identify as Two-Spirit, trans, transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, third gender, are non-labeling and/or do not identify within the cisheteronormative paraidgm to join us in celebrating Trans Day of Visibility. This is also open to non-trans / cisgender people. Today’s film is a unique look at the feminist-led movement for the implementation of regulations and laws to protect sex workers in and around Vancouver. Inviting viewers to shed the stigma in and around sex work, the film humanizes a profession that is a perennial target of scorn.
2—5pm. 610-1033 Davie St. Trans Day Of Visibility
Condom Packaging Party in New West
Think they keep all the fun in the West End…no, no no. Even New Westminster needs a helping gay hand or two to stuff all those little packages of fun. Looking for a great way to give back? Join HIM to help stuff, cram, and pack condoms and lube into tight little packages. Light snacks provided! Held alongside the Rainbow Event Network and the Sunday Afternoon Beer Bash And Condom Packaging! I might even coax a friend of mine; we will call him Sydni with an i to keep him anonymous, to help out. He is more used to pulling the packs out of him than stuffing them but he can learn, plus booze is involved.
4—6pm. Begbie’s Tavern, 609 Columbia St, New Westminster. New Westminster Condom Packing
Thursday, April 4
Sons of Sissy
Sons of Sissy delves into the heart of the Upper Austrian countryside, where traditional folk dances and music reign supreme. These traditions are joyously subverted when four versatile performers/musicians reformulate Alpine dances to liberate themselves from convention. Defying categorization and pigeonholing, the Sons of Sissy live up to their name as they conduct themselves as part weird folk music quartet, part experimentally playful ritual dance combo, using humour to radically disrupt hackneyed male role models. Show runs until Saturday, Apr 6.
8pm. Scotiabank Dance Centre, 677 Davie St. Tickets $323 and info at Sons Of Sissy

Leave your inhibitions at the door, and step inside a speakeasy unlike any before. Let our Green Fairy seduce your senses, as she takes you through a wild affair filled with lust, love, jealousy, and joy. This Luminesque Dance show features an original storyline, spectacular choreography and over 200 of Vancouver's fierce and fabulous dancers! Show runs at Celebrities until Saturday, Apr 6.

Bed & Breakfast
When Brett inherits a family estate, he and his partner, Drew, move to a quiet little tourist town to set up a B&B. But will these big city boys face friction in their new community? With dozens of hilarious characters all portrayed by two actors, it’s a heartfelt comedy about “being out,” skeletons in the closet, and finding a place to call home. Show runs until Saturday, May 3.
7:30pm. Granville Island Stage, Arts Club, 1585 Johnston Street, Granville Island. Tickets $29--$54 and info at Bed & Breakfast
In Advance
Sometimes there are gay events that are so popular they sell out weeks before you may even hear about them. If there is an event like that which gives back to a good cause then I will be posting one of them here so you have a chance to get your tickets before they are gone.
