January 2021: What Does the First Month of the New Year Bring?

There’s no question about how eager Vancouverites and people across the globe are for this particular chapter of our collective and individual experiences to close. We have survived unprecedented times on a social, political, and environmental scale, as well as public health epidemics with COVID-19 and the dramatic rise in addiction and mental health related deaths - none of which magically goes away with the calendar year turning page.

With that said, with predictive astrology we can take a peek at what the year ahead has in store for us. Short of overwhelming you, today’s article will discuss what January is all about: going back to the drawing board.

In January, we will see the Sun, Mercury, and Venus transit Capricorn, forming a conjunction with Pluto. The leftover vestiges of having Saturn in Capricorn lends itself to disappointment in existing ‘structures’ - whether this is political, economical, or personal (i.e., parents, elders, or other authority figures) - and tasking us with having to purge their letdowns and rebuild from scratch. I spoke before on the Great Conjunction bringing structural downfall with it. As the inner planets move into Capricorn, we are gearing up to swallow our frustrations and do something productive with the rubble.

About halfway through the month, we will see these planets ingress Aquarius, which will then form a conjunction with Saturn and Jupiter. With this, we herald in the long and anxiously-awaited Age of Aquarius, wherein Earth is under new rulership, for the next 2000 years.

This marked and historic celestial event kicks off the New Year with the true Aquarian revolutionary spirit, bringing a hurricane of progressive movements and reform. The people are done with the structures in place and are ready for total societal upheaval. It is likely we will see a rapid decline in support for traditional economics and a huge push for more socialist values - something that the Pluto in Scorpio (ancestral transformation) and Sagittarius (spiritual principles & guidance) generations has been focusing on for years and for which will be at the frontlines. With the Sun and Mercury in conjunction with the outer planets in Aquarius about halfway through January, too: this is all anyone is going to be focused on and talking about. Plans to make change will be had and seen through. The question is whether you are up to task.

All of this is to say that yes, while we can let some breath go knowing that 2020 has come and gone… the true work necessary to create the better world we have all been envisioning has yet to even start. Come January, though? We can finally begin.
