Although the year 2021 is approaching its end, drag race content is still blooming with the upcoming Canada's Drag Race premiere on Oct. 14. The new season promotional trailer showcases all new contestants coming from different provinces of Canada. Read more below to see if you know your favourite drag queens in Vancouver!

What is Rupaul's Drag Race?

Rupaul's Drag Race is a TV show featuring a competition for drag queens (a practioner of geneder non-conforming art style). The contestants compete in various challenges to showcase their skills including comedy, theatrical performance, and fashion competency. The winner will earn a cash price, and have their names enter the Hall of Fame. Rupaul's Drag Race is held annually, accompanying its sibling show Rupaul's Drag Race: All Stars which features previous show contestants for a chance to win the title again.

What is Canada's Drag Race?

Canada's Drag Race is Canada's very own spin off from Rupaul's Drag Race. The show format includes similar challenges such as comedy, lip-syncing, fashion runways, while adding new challenges or new twists every season.  Brooke Lynn-Hytes, a previous contestant of Rupaul's Drag Race, is the current judge of Canada's Drag Race. Canada's Drag Race features all Canadian drag queens who come from different provinces to compete. 

What's the difference between Rupaul's Drag Race and Canada's Drag Race?

While Rupaul's Drag Race focuses on only US contestants, Canada's Drag Race focuses more on Canadian drag queens, and Canadian culture references in the show. Brooklyn-Hytes on RuPaul's Drag Race season 12th, was an exception as she was the first Canadian contestant on the show, according to Now Magazine .

Ready to meet the queens? These drag queens will bring their local talents and knowledge to show what the West Coast is all about. 

Gia Metric

Gia Metric combines drag as an art form to express themselves. Gia Metric uses they/them pronoun and identifies as non-binary.  They made the move from Toronto to Vancouver when Metric was at a period of exploring drag and the LGBTQ+ community, according to In Magazine (https://inmagazine.ca/2020/04/7-questions-with-drag-entertainer-gia-metric/). Leveraging their time exploring and developing their art, Gia Metric is now free to showcase their drag style on one of the largest LGBTQ+ shows in Canada. 

Kendall Gender

Proud to call Vancouver her home, Kendall Gender grew up in Richmond, B.C. She won the title of Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar, a local competition for all drag queens and kings of Vancouver. She is also a member of the dynamic drag group the Bratpack. Despite the COVID-19 challenges in 2020, Vancouver residents can now catch a glimpse of their show at the famous The Junction club.

Beth

"Originally from Nelson, BC where she discovered the art of DRAG through theatre, Beth moved to Vancouver in hopes of one day taking over the world.", writes Beth on her website:.

Crediting her background as a Métis, Beth has been identifying as a two-spirit person who loves the art of drag and world domination through drag, starting from Vancouver.

You can see her and other local drag queens at the upcoming viewing party "Canada’s Drag Race Viewing Party! With Beth!" at the Numbers Cabaret. 


Synthia Kiss

Synthia Kiss is also a Vancouver-based drag queen, who credits her drag art as a form of homage to all the women in her life, according to Bell Media's press release.

An Exciting New Season of Drag Race
