Mind-Bending 80’s Thriller Unearths Secrets of Self-Identity & Faith

"Chimera's Ghost," a psychological-horror short film, transcends cinematic boundaries, offering viewers an immersive experience in the enchanting ambiance of the 1980's. Written by emerging talent Kai Watts, an alum of InFocus Film School, and co-written/directed by Jessey Nelson of The Smashed Potato Kids, the narrative promises a unique and compelling watch.

At its core, the film follows the tumultuous journey of Tyler, a 12-year-old wrestling with his emerging queer identity amid struggles with his staunch religious mother, portrayed by Jordan Claire Robbins of "The Umbrella Academy." Alongside her, Azriel Dalman, known for roles in "Joe Pickett" and "Moonfall," steps into the pivotal character of Tyler.

"Chimera's Ghost" skillfully weaves themes of self-discovery and enduring friendship against a backdrop of supernatural twists, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

For writer Kai Watts, this venture goes beyond creativity; it's a deeply personal exploration, injecting authenticity and heartfelt depth into the project. Watts's own experiences as a queer filmmaker provide a unique perspective that enriches the narrative with genuine emotion and resonance.

Crafted by Local BC Filmmakers, the film is skillfully directed by Jessey Nelson, earning recognition for his bold and uncompromising directing approach. With Rob Zawistowski  behind the camera and a committed group of producers, including Christina Adams, Sal Lara, Marie Picard, and Ty Javos, the film guarantees to resonate globally, touching hearts and captivating audiences internationally.

Recognized as one of the winners in the inaugural film heist competition presented by Old Bank Studios and InFocus Film School, "Chimera's Ghost" has garnered invaluable resources, including a $5,000 grant for production, mentorship from industry leaders, and sponsorships.

As 'Chimera's Ghost' progresses through pre-production, excitement mounts for its premiere at the Film Heist Inaugural Gala on January 14th, 2024. Positioned as an emotionally resonant cinematic piece, the film aims to shed light on the profound influence parents have on their children. Through Kai's narrative and Jessey Nelson's visual mastery, it seeks to inspire empathy, foster understanding, and empower those yearning to embrace their true selves.
