Who are Drag Queens/ Drag Kings?
According to Marriam Webster dictionary, the term “drag queen” refers to a gay man dressing like a woman who often hosts entertainment shows. The same meaning can be applied to “drag king”, which means a woman dressing as a man. Drag is considered a type of performance art that varies widely in different communities. In 2020, we have observed a diverse style of drag in LGBTQ+ communities. Styles can range from caricatures of real-life figures or an emphasis of a person’s identity in the modern world or a take on a spectrum between femininity and masculinity. Makeup and face paintings are often used as a drag queen/king’s tools in their identity expressions. Scroll below to explore the beauty of our Vancouver’s drag queens and kings.
