Support QMUNITY’s Food Security Program This Giving Tuesday
For many in the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, the choice between paying rent and buying food is an all-too-common reality. QMUNITY’s Food Security Program aims to change this, and with your help, we can make an even greater impact in 2025.
How You Can Help
This #GivingTuesday, on December 3rd, QMUNITY is working to raise $20,000 to expand its Food Security Program. The program provides grocery store gift cards, offering 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals a simple and dignified way to access food.
In just two years, this initiative has begun addressing food insecurity in our communities—but the need far outweighs the resources available. Your support can help QMUNITY reach more people next year.

Why It Matters
Food insecurity disproportionately affects 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals due to systemic barriers like discrimination, economic instability, and housing challenges. Programs like this are essential in ensuring access to basic needs while maintaining dignity.
Let’s make a difference together. Mark your calendar for December 3rd and join QMUNITY in working towards a future where no queer person goes hungry.
Thank you for your support. Together, we can make 2025 a year of greater food security for all.
Why are things so difficult for Trans and Queer?
In British Columbia, transgender and queer individuals are more likely to experience food insecurity due to many factors including:
Economic Challenges: Transgender and queer individuals often face employment discrimination, leading to higher unemployment rates and lower incomes. This economic instability makes it difficult to afford adequate and nutritious food.
Housing Instability: Discrimination can result in housing challenges, including homelessness or unstable living conditions. Without stable housing, maintaining consistent access to food becomes more difficult.
Health Disparities: Transgender and queer individuals may encounter barriers to healthcare, leading to untreated health issues. Medical expenses can strain finances, leaving less money available for food.
Social Isolation: Experiences of stigma and discrimination can lead to social isolation, reducing access to community support systems that might otherwise assist with food access.
Limited Access to Support Services: Some food assistance programs may not be inclusive or may inadvertently create unwelcoming environments for transgender and queer individuals, limiting their access to these resources.
