Venus in Leo (June 27-July 22, 2021)

While Venus in Cancer brought us heightened emotional perceptions, a desire for closeness, and perhaps even a little bit of homebodiness (movie date in bed, anyone?) the Venus in Leo ingress will add new light to the fire - not necessarily in relationships, as we may have a tendency to think, but in terms of our relationships to ourselves and our relationships with our friends as well.

The archetype of Leo is one of pride, grandiosity, and a fierce commitment to personal authenticity. With Venus here, there is a push towards prioritizing Self and the love of our Self before turning to channel that love into anyone else. This isn’t for selfish purposes in the negative sense, as though we take on a haughty attitude and neglect to care for others as deeply as we did during the Venus in Cancer transit; no, taking care of one’s own needs is simply seen as imperative, lest we become rather demanding lovers under the influence of Venus in Leo. With Venus in Leo, we are innately aware of (or building up) our value and are not afraid to demand the kind of treatment we deserve. If we are all-too-willing to give the very best to ourselves, then we are inclined to believe that we deserve the same from others if they are worthy of our time.

I’ve always admired those with natal Venus in Leo for this very attribute. They secretly (or not-so-secretly, as it were) wish to be worshipped and adored - by their partners, absolutely, but also in passing fancies or the admiring eye of a stranger. For those of us without these classic Leo signatures, we will experience a taste of this same energy, perhaps feeling a boost in confidence and outside attention. Because of this, more controlling types should stay away from those with natal Venus in Leo (or other fixed signs, such as Taurus, Scorpio,

and Aquarius), as they will not be happy with the affection thrown this person’s way. In a kind of dark little dance, though: the native with this placement will likely very much enjoy small displays of jealousy or possessiveness, because it means they are wanted on a visceral level and with whose devotion is not taken lightly.

Having said all of that, in committed relationships, those with natal Venus in Leo (particularly during this transit) are as loyal and dedicated as they come. As much as they want to be shown off by their partners like a fine decoration or outfit, they also love setting the stage for those they love. I have often thought, with Leo Venuses, that they are Sunshine embodied. And when they turn that on you (and they will)… boy, you will be glowing just as bright.
