The global mobile gaming market is now estimated to be worth more than $103.5 billion dollars and continues to grow at a rapid pace. Three billion people around the world play games from their phone, with Gen Alpha and Gen Z having the highest percentage of mobile gamers, followed by Millennials.  

Puzzles are now the top genre of game, with players enjoying the mental stimulation they provide. Strategy and role-playing games are also some of the top played, followed by competitive esports style titles, simulation games and arcade games. Casino games are also on the rise with more players opting to play their favorite casino games online.

There are millions upon millions of game downloads each year but certain games tend to stand out of the crowd and become a big talking point within the mobile gaming community. Without further ado, we take a look at some of the best trending gaming apps of 2024.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

First up is Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, a game that is particularly well loved by millennial fans of the famous Harry Potter franchise. However, even players too young to have watched the early Harry Potter movies upon their release in the 2000s are enjoying this game. 

Available for both Android and iOS devices and free to download from the app stores, Magic Awakened slots into the world of Hogwarts without being directly linked to any of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter books. The game is co-published by Warner Bros Games and NetEase Games.

This game is set one decade after the devastating Battle of Hogwarts explored in the original book and film series. It features some of the characters that you will be familiar with from the original, alongside a whole host of new exciting characters with a fresh story arc and new locations to enjoy. 

Players like this game for its unique card combat system and the rich storyline that strikes a perfect balance between familiarity and new adventures. 

PUBG: New State

The game series PUBG is one of the most popular game series around and PUBG: New State for mobile has been downloaded more than 50 million times since its release in 2021. 

Developed by Krafton, this battle royale game involves 100 players jumping out of a plane on to the remote island of Troi. From there they must collect essential supplies and fight one another for the chance to survive. The last one left alive is crowned the winner.

The setting is a futuristic environment in the year 2051. It features a range of high speed futuristic vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, gliders and speedboats. 

Players are able to switch between a first person and a third person perspective, and can customise their chosen weapons with accessories and firing mode selections. There is a secondary 4 v 4 multiplayer mode, which includes a team deathmatch. 

For both those already enjoying PUBG on console and those playing the game from mobile for the first time, New State is highly recommended due to its ultra realistic graphics that push the boundaries for what is possible on mobile and its interesting setting with lots of unique customisation choices.

Among Us 

Developed and published by Innersloth, the social deduction game Among Us was first released in 2018 and a subsequent VR version was released in November 2022. It is a space themed game where players are represented by cartoon astronauts who make on the role of either crewmate or imposter.

Their identity remains secret to the other players. While the crewmates work together in order to achieve their goals, the imposters are given the objective of killing some of the crewmates without revealing their identity as the imposter.

Between four and fifteen players are able to participate in a session and there are five playable maps to be explored, including a spaceship and a mushroom jungle. It's a cross-platform game that was first released on mobile but is now available on Xbox, PlayStation and all other major consoles. 

Genshin Impact

Role playing games are a great way to immerse yourself in something and block out distractions. Genshin Impact, developed by chinese developers miHoYo is a free to play open world game with gacha game mechanics and an action-based battle title. 

The setting is the fictional world of Teyvat, which has seven nations each ruled by a different God. It has received good ratings around the world and is particularly popular as a PC title. Mobile games like Genshin Impact are ideal for PC or console gamers to enjoy on the go.
