June is known internationally as Pride Month and there are many celebrations happening throughout BC from June to September.

The original Gay Liberation Day organizers chose June as homage to the Stonewall  Uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which helped spark the modern gay rights movement. The first Gay Pride Parade was June 28, 1970. View some photos of this event on CNN
