Holiday Movies 2021 - Let's Get Festive!
by Christine Kinori
Well , it is that time of the year when we get our Christmas lights out, decorate our trees and drink more eggnog than we can handle. I don't know about you but this is my favourite time of the year. There is just something special about listening to Christmas carols while preparing meals and making memories with those close to us.
To help you get into the Christmas spirit, here are some LGBTQI2S+ Christmas movies that will get you in the festive mood.
Single all the way
This Netflix romantic comedy leans hard on the reality of being single in the Christmas season . Every single person can relate to the taxing job of answering the why are you still single question at a family reunion. There is always that one nosy aunt or grandparent ready to remind you that you are getting old and should have a partner already . Such is the case for Peter in this rom-com , who in order to avoid the grueling experience asks his best friend Nick to pretend they are officially a couple . However , he has no idea his family has a few tricks up their own sleeves and if the trailer is anything to go by then we are in for a treat . With a stellar cast that includes the dreamy Michael Urie , the sexy Luke Mcfarlane ,and the iconic Jennifer Coolidge ,this movie is relatable and a few laughs is just the best way to destress . The movie premiers worldwide on 2nd December .
Under the Christmas tree
The possibility of casually running into the love of your life when doing some Christmas tree shopping may be zero to nil but that was not the case for Alma and Charlie . This Lifetime movie tells us their story once the romantic sparks start to fly between these two characters . This is Lifetime’s first lesbian romance movie and I am excited to see how the story unravels . Will Alma and Charlie get a happy ending ? Catch the film on December 19th and find out if the Christmas Magic will help their love blossom.
The Bitch Who Stole Christmas
This is one of the most anticipated LGBTQI2S+ holiday movies of this year. The cast is made up of 20 RuPaul's Drag Race contestants and it is officially the draggiest Christmas movie ever made. It also features other celebrities and we are so excited to see their chemistry on-screen. The movie is about a journalist from the big city who lives for her work. Her latest assignment sends her to a small town obsessed with Christmas and she soon finds out things can get messy especially when the housewives are as cut-throat as the men in Wall Street. Will what she discovers destroy Christmas forever? We will find out on 2nd December when the movie is slated to premiere on VH1.
Christmas House 2 : Deck Those Halls
This is a sequel to last year’s groundbreaking film Christmas house . Christmas house was the first holiday movie that featured a LGBTQI2S+ storyline for the Hallmark channel. It was one of the best Christmas movies of 2020 and we are excited to see the Mitchell family reunite for the second instalment . The sequel follows up on the Mitchell brothers who are summoned by their parents for Christmas. The parents hope that the family will work through some of their issues while recreating their Christmas house. We also get to see Jake and Brandon expand their family as they desperately wait to see if they will be able to adopt . Hopefully they will get a Christmas miracle and become parents . Catch up with the family on December 18th on Netflix.
