Sun in Cancer - June 21-July 22, 2021

One of my favourite transits of the year, the Sun in Cancer brings an energy charge unlike any other sign of the Zodiac.

The Keepers of Time, Cancer placements remember everything and chronicle all. Memories are laced in emotion and song, colour and space. They know all of the anniversaries and have logged every special moment – whether you were aware it was important or not. A lot of this energy is actually concentrated (and therefore expressed in its purest form) within the realm of a Cancer's family and home life. They may have somewhat of a strong attachment to their roots - so much so that they may feel utterly discontent without the security of knowing that they have that very same home to ‘come back to,’ whether this is figurative (and feeding into more of an emotional need) or literal. Given the nature of these placements, we can assess that a lot of their identity really does ride on being ‘the fixer.’ They may have been assigned this position within the family dynamic quite early, though it is likely that even in the stablest of family homes, these Cancer stamps would have willingly decided to carry that burden anyway.

The Cardinal modality of Cancer motivates all those with Cancer signatures to action. Cancer energy has the drive to continue pushing forward even when all else has slowed down, though they are wont to take note of the emotional vibration and detail around them to cache in their endless reserve of memory and draw upon later. They dive headfirst into situations informed by memories of the past and with charged emotion, making them headstrong and fearless in one regard and soft and sentimental in the other.

I have often compared natal Cancer Suns to “mama bears,” in that they are warm with others and protective of those they love but utterly vicious in their attack. Because of their deep understanding of the emotional realm, those with Cancer stamps know exactly where to strike (and when) so that it hurts the most. Remember: they remember everything. This can make for the sweetest, most thoughtful gift on a special day unbeknownst to you… or it can make for a vindictive and scathing attack on your insecurities.

Cancer Suns would be wise to keep an eye on their tendency to weaponize their own emotions and manipulate others through them. Rather; they may utilize their natural gift of empathy with honour by offering to help those around them instead. Those who have been loved by Cancer signatures know of its unique mix of fire and ice. The beautiful thing about Cancer is in this duality itself.

With the Sun moving into Cancer, we will all likely feel that familiar push and pull of Self vs. Others. The Sun elevates our emotional sensitivity and propensity towards personal expression - a welcome (or positively uncomfortable) change for those of us who are perhaps more reserved in our self-expression and vulnerability. I encourage those of this nature to embrace all that makes them human; the Sun in Cancer may prove that with the willingness to be raw, we see great leadership potential too.
