Day of Pink Visibility Tour at the Junction

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the transgender pride flag, Monica Helms, its creator, is coming to Vancouver on April 27th.

Her visit is part of the International Day of Pink, held each year in April to combat bullying and discrimination. This year, the International Day of Pink launches The Visibility Tour, hosting events in cities across Canada. Three major milestones are being celebrated, and Monica will be joined by a lineup of local speakers to address each of these breakthroughs.

The De-pathologization of Homosexuality: 50th Anniversary

(homosexuality removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)

El Chenier, SFU professor, will share the powerful history of how homosexuality was removed from the DSM.

The Brunswick Four Incident: 50th Anniversary

(in which four lesbians were expelled from a Toronto bar in 1974)

Susan Craigie, local lesbian activist, will discuss the connection between this incident and a similar episode she pioneered in local lesbian history: the Kiss-In at Joe's Café.

The Transgender Pride Flag: 25th Anniversary

Glenn Tkach, the creator of The Really Gay History Tour, will interview Monica Helms about her experiences as a pioneering trans woman, and her creation of the iconic flag.
