Queer Arts Festival looking for submissions: Gender Pirates
Celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility Trans, non-binary, genderqueer, and third gender artists are invited to submit proposals for QAF’s event, Gender Pirates, a series of trans-centred arts events curated by Bobbi Kozinuk, Mar 25 - Apr 2, 2022.
Gender Pirates is conceived as a series of events to celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31), including a pop-up gallery and cabaret night, as well as panels, interviews, and events to take place in-person and online.
We are seeking:
1. Visual Artists for QAF’s Trans Pop-Up Gallery
To be held Mar 25 - Apr 2, 2022 at the Sun Wah Centre, 268 Keefer Street
Installation: March 24, De-Installation: April 3
Medium: any medium, with the understanding that this is a group show and that the opportunity to present larger works may be limited in order to accommodate as many artists as possible.
Deadline for submission: March 4
Please email submission@queerartsfestival.com and include your name, contact details, description of proposed work and dimensions. For submissions of pre-existing works, please include photo/video documentation whenever possible; for new works, please provide examples of previous related work.
2. Performing artists for Gender Pirates Trans Cabaret
To be held evening of Apr 2, 2022 at the Sun Wah Centre, 268 Keefer Street
We are looking for any performance-based presentations, including (but not limited to) music, sound art, rap, spoken word, drag, movement, and dance*.
Deadline for submission: March 4
Please email submission@queerartsfestival.com and include your name, contact details, description of proposed performance, duration, and technical needs. Electronic keyboard and sound system will be provided. For submissions of pre-existing works, please include audio/video documentation whenever possible; for new works, please provide examples of previous related work.
*Note: Sun Wah Centre does not have sprung floors.
Selected artists will be notified shortly after the March 4 deadline. All selected artists will receive an honorarium.
