Highlighting the strength and power of female-identifying voices.

Female-identifying voices take the spotlight at The Cultch’s fifth annual Femme Festival!

Stories from visionaries enliven this festival—like science journalist Alanna Mitchell's voyage to the abyss in Sea Sick and Rhodnie Désir's immersion through dance in the African cultures and rhythms of peoples deported to the Americas in BOW’T TRAIL RETROSPEK.

These works interrogate and reimagine stereotypes—as in Erin Shield's Beautiful Manwhich dismantles the media's portrayal of women with an eviscerating wit—and give space to who we are and what we want, as with Hannah Moscovitch’s Bunny, a refreshingly frank exploration of sex and desire.

Just as crucial is how we tell stories and who holds centre stage. In Response to Alabama welcomes a small audience to an intimate setting where performers speak honestly about their abortions. Clean/Espejos, told in English and Spanish with subtitles, follows the collision of two women from different worlds—a Mexican hotel employee and a Canadian wedding guest.

These stories are vital, diverse, and stirring. We invite you to be part of them!"
