World AIDS Day - December 1st, 2024
Join Us in the Fight Against HIV and AIDS
World AIDS Day is a global movement dedicated to uniting people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Since its inception in 1988, communities around the world have come together to demonstrate strength and solidarity against the stigma associated with HIV while honouring the lives lost to this ongoing epidemic.
The Reality Today: HIV remains a global pandemic, with a staggering 1.3 million new cases reported in 2023—equating to one new transmission every 30 seconds. Canada has also seen a concerning rise in cases, with a 25 percent increase in 2022, marking the largest leap over a decade (source: canfar.com).
How to Be an Ally This World AIDS Day:
Wear a Red Ribbon: Show your support by wearing a red ribbon and using the hashtag #myredribbon on social media.
Donate: Consider donating to your local AIDS service organization, such as Ribbon Community.
Advocate: Encourage your elected officials to support free HIV treatment and prevention medications.
Educate: Take the time to educate yourself, your friends, and family about the realities of HIV today and the science behind U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable).
Get Tested: Regular testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) is vital for your health and the health of your community.
