The Littlest Dinosaur Goes To A Wedding

Bryce Raffle and Steven Kothlow are excited to announce the launch of their sixth book in The Littlest Dinosaur series, The Littlest Dinosaur Goes To A Wedding.

If you’re not familiar with the series, The Littlest Dinosaur is the story of a little Tyrannosaurus Rex named Ty, who wants nothing more than to make a friend. His efforts are continuously rejected, as the other dinosaurs are afraid of his sharp teeth. The twist is that Ty is a vegan and would rather eat hummus than harm another dinosaur. Sadly, the other dinosaurs aren’t willing to give him a chance, until at last, Ty finds the littlest dinosaur he’s ever seen, a newly hatched dinosaur who quickly warms up to Ty.

By the second book, The Littlest Dinosaur Finds A Home, the two are best friends and later brothers. The third book, funded successfully on Kickstarter, sees Ty smuggling his adopted brother into school in his backpack in order to include him. In The Littlest Dinosaur’s First Christmas, the pair wind up donating their presents to a nearby shelter so that disadvantaged dinosaurs can celebrate in the merriment of the holidays. The fifth published title, The Littlest Dinosaur’s Big Book of Dinosaur Facts, is nonfiction.

The themes of the books are inclusivity and acceptance of others, so it’s no surprise that the sixth book in the series introduces Mama Tyrannosaur’s same-sex partner, Allie The Allosaurus, and concludes with their wedding. In the latest installment, Ty the Tyrannosaur and his adopted brother, The Littlest Dinosaur, learn that their mom is going to be married. They are curious and have a lot of questions about what marriage is. Their biggest concern: will their mom have enough love to go around?

In this heartwarming series, this could be the most heartfelt moment we’ve seen yet. As  members of the lgbtqia2s+ community, authors Kothlow and Raffle were determined to deal with the same-sex marriage topic in a way that normalized it. The little dinosaurs don’t have any problem with their mom being gay. They just want to make sure she’ll still be there to tuck them in at night and read them a bedtime story. As soon as they realise that two moms means two times the love, they’re on board.

The story opens up an important conversation about different family structures, including same-sex couples, single parents, and blended families in an inclusive way that will pull at the heartstrings of children and adults alike, and readers will fall in love with the whimsical art style of illustrator Tessa Verplancke, whose own upcoming wedding helped inspire the new book.

The authors are excited to share this inclusive tale with readers in BC and they invite everyone to join them in celebrating the launch of this book as they kick off their book signing tour around the lower mainland beginning in June (pride month). The authors will be appearing in person at Indigo, Chapters, and Coles Book Stores, as well as independently owned stores like Groove Cat Books & Records, and Kinder Books, both in New Westminster. Exact stores and dates will be posted on their Instagram account @thelittlestdinosaurseries

For readers wishing to purchase books, they can be found in many local bookstores, as well as on amazon.ca. More info on the authors’ website: littlestdinosaur.square.site
