Vancouver Pride Society is the lead organization in BC, coordinating flag raising ceremonies in 8 communities across the province. Surrey Pride Society is excited to host one of these ceremonies locally, in the beautiful of Surrey. We invite everyone to attend, to celebrate our freedom to be who we are, and to acknowledge the tireless work by LGBTQ2+ advocates in achieving this freedom. Guest speakers will include Cpl Elenore Sturko, Joan Taylor, Martin Rooney, Don Crowe.

69 Positions: Circa Omnibus

The west coast stop of Queer Media Database Canada-Québec Project’s touring exhibition series, marking the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Omnibus which legalized same-sex sexual activities. As the powers-that-be gear up to recognize the 50th Anniversary of Bill C-150, the Criminal Law Amendment Act, we question what this milestone really meant for LGBTQ2+ communities. In the context of resounding present-day calls to decriminalize Indigenous resistance, drug use, immigration status and sex work, what does this half-century of so-called ‘decriminalization of homosexuality’ mean for our communities? “There is no room for the state in the bedrooms of the nation.”
-- Martin O’Malley, credited to P.E. Trudeau. Exhibit runs until Saturday, Aug 17.

12—6pm, Tue—Sat. Sum Gallery, 425—268 Keefer St. Free event. 69 Positions: Circa Omnibus

Queer Prov

I envy the people that can climb up on stage and make people laugh, I can do that but usually only at a table covered in cocktails and the one eared elephant trick usually happens. QueerProv is Canada's leading queer improv comedy troupe. They're a not-for-profit society dedicated to creating queer community through improv theatre and since moving to Junction they now have two shows this night. First one is QueerProv and the second is The Late Show that I am pretty sure is my version as it is probably less censored.

7:30—9pm QueerProv, 9:30—11pm The Late Show. The Junction, 1138 Davie St. No cover but donations accepted after the show. QueerProv

Encore

I have to admit that a night that I thought would never go over at Pumpjack is actually a hit and keeps on growing, much like the bartenders when I am around. Get here early and have a few drinks and then sit back and belt out a few tunes in a full bar sing-a-long with Kerry O’Donovan and Sean Allen. All that is missing is Sydney Malcolm and his pink technicolour jacket as MC.

9pm—2am. Pumpjack Pub, 1167 Davie St. No cover. Encore
